The Foundation was pleased to support our local schools with $43,000 in classroom and school projects throughout the district and looking forward to 2016/17 with almost $45,000 in grant funds.
Grants are funded through the State Match Grant as well as our Corporate sponsors Capital City Bank, Suncoast Credit Union and Duke Energy.
Our focus last year and continuing into 2016/17 is funding for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education in the middle school grades; providing Chrome Book libraries for every elementary school in the district as well as funding for teacher quality projects.
The Consortium of Florida Education Foundations (CFEF) recently awarded the Levy County Schools Foundation $16,910.12 in matching funds through the School District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program provided through the State of Florida.
The Grant is funding a project through the Levy County Schools called “The Success of the Future”. The goal of this project is to provide technology and opportunity for Levy County students so they can complete in the 21st Century.
Funds will be used to provide computer and web-based resources for students; finance industry certifications for career and technical education students; and provide mentors to ensure that teachers are highly effective in the classroom.
Outcomes will be measured by student performance on computer based state and/or local testing in language arts and mathematics; the number of students earning industry certifications and the retention and performance of the new teachers in the district for 2016/17.
Through the collaborative effort of its members, the CFEF successfully advocated for the creation of legislative matching funds in 2000 which has provided a dollar-for-dollar incentive for local education foundations to raise private contributions for eligible projects. ”I’ve seen the impact of the Matching Grant Program first hand in Brevard County where I live, and I’m happy to support this program statewide to benefit other local education foundations and the students they serve”, said Speaker of the House Steve Crisafulli.
The CFEF is the membership organization for Florid’s school district-wide local education foundations. Established in 1987, the CFEF seeks to advance student achievement in Florida by increasing private sector investment and involvement in public education. The CFEF now has 651 member foundations with 1,100 business and community leaders serving as volunteer board members. Collectively they have raised more than $45 million annually to support students, teachers and schools through a variety of programs. The CFEF has facilitated more than $37 million to local education foundations since 2002 through various private and public sector partnerships, including the State of Florida School District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program.
